A new law went into effect Tuesday, July 17 in the State of West Virginia that affected the punishments for driving under the influence.
WBOY reported that this legislation was introduced in response to two deadly DUI crashes that occurred in 2009 and 2011.The law makes a DUI that is responsible for the death or serious injury of another person a felony offense. Additionally, those who are responsible and convicted a DUI that killed someone will face a prison sentence that could range from 3 to 15 years.
The increased penalties should make people think twice before deciding to drive after drinking. For more information regarding this law Click Here to read WBOY’s story.
