Morgantown Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was killed Monday night in Downtown Morgantown. The driver was heading north on South High Street at about 8:45 p.m. and struck a pedestrian crossing the street. While the names of the driver and walker have not yet been identified publicly, the pedestrian was said to be an elderly man.  

Monday was the first day of fall classes at West Virginia University and the annual Fall Fest concert series was going on at the downtown campus at the time of the incident. However, there is not yet any indication that either party was a West Virginia University student or affiliated with the university.

Police were not releasing the name of the driver or pedestrian as of early Tuesday morning. The investigation is ongoing and Morgantown Police are asking anyone who may have information about the incident to contact them at (304) 284-7522
